I'm working on a layout and I want to incorporate some tall grass and cat tails into the design....does anyone know of a good way to make these using vector shapes?

here's an attempt. the grass sucks, but the cattail turned out pretty cool, i think. just a pen stroke with a few effects. open the .png to see:

that's actually very cool! thanks, mike! It looks pretty similar to my attempt...though your cat tail turned out a little better. I'll upload my attempt when I get home tonight.

yeah, i think the cattail is a little blurry...would probably look better smaller. or you could probably throw a vector mask on top to clean it up. i'm curious to see yours.

Here's what I came up with so far:
The colors will be different...I was just experimenting with them to see what looks best.
The poky grass at the bottom is just a bunch of Start Auto Shapes grouped together.

That's a good start, how about using some gradients to give it a little more depth?

yeah, that does look good. nice use of the auto shape.

last night i was on a walk and i paused to look at this really overgrown grass in someone's lawn. i noticed it's generally bending down at the top a lot more than i would have guessed...but maybe the slight breeze had something to do with that.

How so? I'm not sure where to add a gradient too....

A while ago I was asked to re-create a logo from an embroidery in vectors (it was a poor quality photo of a jacket sleeve, painful job...), part of it was grass... Here it is

wow, that's pretty cool! It's crazy how something so simple can actually be very complex when you try to put it together. Nice work.
I like how you have that shade on the grass...I'll try to incorporate something similar with my project...adding some depth.

Maybe some on the blades of grass, fade from one shadow of green to another, maybe add a brown tint somewhere, etc. Depends on what you want to do with it, of course. :)

That's really cool!

WOW! That's really cool. I'm gonna have to pull that apart later on tonight. Nice work.
