Hello,
This is my first post. I'm glad to discover this forum! As a Web designer, I've become a huge fan of Fireworks in recent months and I now use it exclusively for all Web projects.

OK, my question...

I'm designing a site for a welding company and I need a rusty/iron/metal background for a section of the home page. I've looked at loads of textures, but nothing is just right. Temporarily, I created a "brushed metal" thing with radial motion and noise, but that's not good enough.

Here's the home page (still in test phase):
http://www.schenkerstudio.com/Development/WeldingRods

The section I'm referring to is in the lower half of the page.

I'd be thrilled to hear from some experts here on what you think would work!

Thanks for this forum. I look forward to contributing.

Thanks,
Matthew

Welcome!

There are no easy or simple method to create plausible iron BG without using actual images.

Fill FW up with various textures and using stack of overlaying textured objects will do the trick,

but this method requires some gentle tweaking and sharp eye.
Here is my humble try to create metallic iron texture:

As a welcoming gift, the image above is FW source PNG :D

Mikko,
Thank you so much for jumping in and helping. I really appreciate it.

Around the corner from my home, there is an iron-working shop, with all kinds of metal sheets and bars outside. I took some photos, and the shots look OK, but of course subtle shifts in lighting ruin even a good shot for backgrounds.

The image you uploaded is great! Did you create that just now, or did you already make it for something else?

I'll look at the source and try to learn how you did this! Can I use it?

Thanks again,
Matthew

I created that image from scratch just for show an example,
so feel free to use it any way you like. Happy to help fellow FW users.

Mikko,
Thank you again.

I've opened it and I'm looking layer by layer to see how you did this!

I want to learn how these things are done, rather than just use something. So this is really valuable to me, and again I really appreciate your help.
