I am trying to replicate a photoshop tutorial using fireworks and everything went well till now. I cant punch the these two objects (see attached image please).
Both are symbols- and I suspect that's the problem- and the bottom one is under the top one by 30px aprox so i need to to punch it because i want to add some text and align it. But without the punch the text will go under the green symbol.

sorry for my poor english :(

You're probably correct that the problem may be because the objects are symbols. I think that FW does not perform complex path operations on symbols or complex grouped objects.

Try duplicating the symbols, break them apart (right-click > Symbols > Break Apart), and punch only the parts of the symbols that need to be modified. You can then create a group of the punched and remaining components or create a new symbol. (This looks like it might be a button symbol, so after punching the components you can create a new button symbol with the modified parts.)
