How did I do this?

I made this a few years ago using Fireworks MX. All the original files have been lost and I need to recreate the swirl in the background but for the life of me I can't remember how I did it. Any ideas on how I could recreate it? I still only have Fireworks MX.

It looks like, to me, you used the pen tool and set the stroke pretty thick. Then cloned it a few time and overlapped them with slightly different shades of color.
