Adobe Fireworks compatibility note: Due to bugs in Fireworks’ support for Live Effects, we do not support using Alien Skin plug-ins as Live Effects in Fireworks CS3. Filters can be launched from Fireworks’ filter menu without problems.

That's the warning you can see on Alien Skin's website, on every product's Requirements page.

Check out one example

What's going on? Does anyone know more about this stuff? What bug? I'm an avid user of Alien Skin plugins, and as of now, all of those work fine as Live Effects in my copy of FW CS3.

Did any of you guys have problems applying those filters as Live Effects?

To me, one of the strengths of Alien Skin plugins was that they were in-line with Fireworks' principle of "keeping everything editable all the time". I would still get future plugins from them anyway, but it'd be sad to see that function gone. :(

I'm aware of a couple of bugs, but nothing that should hinder the plugins to work properly as live filters. We'll work with them to resolve the issues if any for CS4.

Thanks Alan. :)

I really hope that CS4 and Alien Skin will be compatible, despite those warnings - after all, their plugins work in CS3! ;)
